There are many great people around Vicki Zhao, but there is also a saying, 'the spectators see the chess game better than the players'. We, as commoners, maybe look her future more clearly. The following suggestions maybe useful for her.
1.The Location For Development
Wei-wei seemed want to develop her career in Asia. I agree with her, though it's difficult. I think she should stay more in Hong Kong and then spread her power to nearby countries. Why? If Wei-wei believes in her ability, she will be succeeded in everywhere with her popularity.
She should keep distance to China, making herself more mysterious, especially she is now so popular. She should learn from Yi-mou Zhang, his and Lee An's movies are for westerners, though Chinese often lose aspirations.
Wei-wei's experience and knowledge will be fruitful when time goes by, especially her English. I hoping she can contact more directors, understood by directors overseas. Therefore, she can film different kinds of films.
She should dare to give up something. I think Wei-wei has the courage. Flowers, clapping and the enthusiasm of fans are not long. She should calm down and think seriously. It helps for her future.
Wei-wei should believe her power, though some people opposed her to get some roles, but they didn't think of the high rating comes from commoners, not the bachelors, masters and doctors. Even their kids and parents watch such they called 'bad' films. She should film one Chinese mainland film or TV drama every year to help the contact with the mainland, in order to avoid the embarrassing experience liked Chong Chen and Yu Zhang etc. Act in overseas movies can make Wei-wei be a freshman, brings her excitement and motive power, but of course, she may face failure.
She can put Hong Kong as her main market. It is because the quality of Hong Kong people is higher than the mainland; their education and economic level also higher, so they will not jealous for her high income; and do not have critizisms and prejudices on her; they are more open-minded and lenient. So Hong Kong is good for her career. The most important is to keep the dignity of a Chinese. Keep in mind that not to film too many Japanese movies (Korean is exceptional). Chinese still have not good feeling about Japanese, especially Taiwan likes Japanese. Wei-wei should understand the matter and avoid bringing herself to trouble.
If the mainland is more lenient, Wei-wei can have a freer choice.
2.Theme of Film
The production of commercial movies in Hong Kong seems do not have any breakthrough recently. In the mainland, there is no real commercial movie. For Vicki, it is unnecessary to film such kind of movies for promoting herself. Her appearance and temperament is very suitable for move movies. It's lucky that artistic movie is starting popular in Asia. Although she can't act experienced and mature woman, she is suitable for filming those like Ms Yamaguchi's movies (not Qiung-yao's simple movies). Hong Kong and mainland do not have such kind of movie. As many actresses in Hong Kong are too mature, love affair outside marriage is many in mainland, the pure love movie will be popular.
Director Guo-xing Chen wanted Wei to take part in his film. I'm not sure it's real or not, but his film is about human relationship, very suitable for Wei. Director Chen also hope his movie is a combination of commercial and artistic.
I also hope Wei acting different kinds of roles, like in big production, famous stories or ancient stories. If Wei can handle them, we are glad to watch them. I strongly recommend 'Shan-bo Liang and Ying-tai Zhu'. She acts Ying-tai Zhu. Huang-rong can't compare with this role, as this role is famous in Chinese and foreigners, just like Romeo and Juliet. I believe her ancient appearance is the most beautiful one.
Of course, I think Wei should act an university student. She's just already graduated and still keep the temperament of a student. It's better if the story talks about a poor university student studies hard for life. It will be very touching.
Of course there are many other themes suitable for her.
3.The Style
I think, after being popular, there are some images not suitable for Wei.
Actually Wei should be calm to face the audience, being totally different from Swallow, then the audience will not think her popularity is due to the luck.
Recently, her style is a combination of lively and calm. It's successful. I think it is because she has the help of professional style director, her main point is young and professional. Although Wei said, 'Chinese audiences like simple actors'. Some youngsters like 'cool' actors, for example, Faye Wong. Wei is too kind and polite, sometimes played by others. She should face directly to critizism and unfriendly questions. She doesn't have to made concessions, and should has a ruthless character behind her gentle appearance.
If Wei's appearance is too common, people will critize her taste. For Wei, if she doesn't like to be modern, her appearance can be more high-class. For example, Qi-qi's leather fashion is very good; Wei's white backless clothes in Hong Kong also good. No matter how she busy, she should keep herself young. In 'Sunshine Stars Awards' in Guangzhou, her style was special, a bit strange but funny.
