Certainly I have loved Zhao Wei since she acted Little Swallow: her big bright eyes were my most brilliant sunshine in 1999. She made me feel a kind of similarity between lives - when I see her I see myself, and to love her is to love myself. I am not a somewhat unruly or somewhat crazy girl, but I am convinced that the passion and many other things that flow in my veins are similar to Little Swallow's.
I scorn any exoteric critics to Little Swallow. Maybe Qiong Yao was overreached in her descriptions of Little Swallow in 'Princess Huanzhu II', but Zhao Wei did not overplay at all - She acted what the script was written. But obviously there were not many people as objective as I was. When people tried hard to debase Little Swallow and Zhao Wei herself, outside the TV box, I saw pure sadness and innocence occupied her big eyes. I was also caught in these sadness and helplessness.
Later I discovered that Zhao Wei was changing. Changing is something that everyone will experience, but the matter is how to change and to change what. Because of being excessively puffed, Auntie Qiong Yao changed an outgoing and different Swallow into madness and stupidity: what an admirable failure. Because of being excessively debated, Zhao Wei changed her pure and lively self into mildness and maturity, and this was new and fresh. In 'Love & Rain', Zhao Wei's acting was commendable. The theme song 'Love & Rain' was sung sadly, touchingly and soul-stirringly. Her image for Red Earth was also healthy, beautiful, and widely praised. In summary, Zhao Wei's change was successful.
But after that, I suddenly found the mature Zhao Wei lost her characters, without her wit of twinkling eyes, without her pure laughter, but with mildness of ordinary female stars revealed by her shoulder-touching hair. Fortunately, Zhao Wei is still tolerant and easy-going: many female stars don't reach the level of her self-possession.
Several days ago, when Zhao Wei chatted in Sina.com, I had waited for several hours but did not receive an answer of my question from her. Although I knew that was not Zhao Wei's fault, I still had doubt in myself and in Zhao Wei - Was it worth for me to like her so much? In the days while I was thinking, I went on searching for her news on the Internet; buying any magazine about Zhao Wei; singing 'Love & Rain' endlessly; and arguing for Zhao Wei with my friends ...
Then I discovered that for these two years, Zhao Wei is a part of my habit, even of life and of thinking, she rooted too deeply on me. I continue to love Zhao Wei as before.
But when I saw Zhao Wei in a cheongsam gracefully smiling in an old ShangHai atmosphere, I could not help thinking of Swallow and her lively "turn force into glue [Note 1]" ...
[Note 1] In Chinese, "turn enmity into harmony" sounds like "turn force into glue".
