Certainly Zhao Wei's achievements of today are not comparable to Stephen Chow, but she has a very good beginning. Little Swallow, the brand-new unruly character, is sufficient to set up her position in the
history of Chinese comedy. Zhao Wei combined her extrovert, open, wild, and naughty personality with the acting she learned from the Movie Academy, giving Little Swallow, a fictional character, life and
vigor. Some said that anyone who acted Little Swallow would have become famous. What a joke! There were so many lovely roles in movies and TV plays, unfortunately, besides MeiLing Yung's Huang Rong, whom else we remembered? They failed because they expressed "lively" factitiously and intentionally. Zhao Wei is often criticized as too childish. What they do not know is that only children, without knowing the complexity of the adult world, can judge right and wrong with their simple, pure, non-utilitarian minds. In their eyes Zhao Wei differs from those affected adults in that she is real and pure.
Limited by her temperament, Zhao Wei may not fit acting Huang Rong, but the boundless vituperation and attack exceeded what human rights allowed. I think, we could have peacefully tell her that she did not fit acting Huang Rong, that's all. When Zhao Wei sadly said, "Hope you find your heartfelt Huang Rong", I thought that what really depressed her was not she could not acting Huang Rong but people's attitude. She might never understand that besides acting Little Swallow successfully, besides writing an instructor-praising thesis, besides reneging a contract of a repeated role because of lacking social experiences, what else flagrance she committed to trigger so many dirty words...
Today's Zhao Wei always remind me of yesterday's Stephen Chow: the same brilliance, the same genius of comedy, the same devotion to their acting career... and the same success in their debut and associated distain in the mainland.
Maybe Zhao Wei could never reach Stephen Chow's level, but tender wings need supports. Before conclusion, let's treat this talented girl with a positive and friendly attitude, can't we? Do not let this Zhao
Wei-loving generation, when they grow up, blaming us that we were so narrow-minded and evil-minded about their unruly and fantasy idol in their studying era.
Stephen Chow has gained popularity from 'The Saint Gambler' in Hong Kong and Taiwan since 1990. Now it's year 2000. What a long time to gain people's approval!
I hope Zhao Wei do not have to wait for so long. This kind of wrong thing should not be repeated anymore!
