In this scene, Zhao Wei and Japanese actor Masahiro Motoki were expressing their love for one another in front of a hotel. The scene may seem simple, but the preparation work was enormous. The production team had to seal off the entire street, and then arrange for a water tanker to crate the rain scene.
Untidy hairstyle; solemn facial expression
At around nine thirty pm, Zhao Wei, whose character in the movie is a taxi driver, reached the scene with an untidy hairstyle and solemn facial expression; probably perturbed by her eye condition. However, once she sat into the taxi and the director started the cameras rolling, she became all-professional and resumed her smiling face and started enacting the scene with Motoki. They wrote ‘I love you’ on the windscreen of her car with lipstick. As both artistes were adept with their acting, the scene was completed without hiccups and they moved on to the next scene.
Seldom talked with Masahiro Motoki
Zhao Wei did not talk much with Motoki, as there is a language barrier. When she is not required for the scenes, Zhao Wei kept to herself and stayed inside the taxi.
After the whole night of filming, Zhao Wei and Motoki did not accept any media requests for interviews. However, we noted one interesting thing during filming. The Chinese production team tried to talk to the Japanese workers in Japanese, whist the Japanese would reply in Mandarin. It was rather funny to see both teams conversing in that method.

Zhao Wei and Masasahiro Motoki were involved in overnight filming for [The Longest Night in Shanghai]. Perhaps because of the long hours, Zhao Wei kept yawning once the cameras stop rolling.
Car cruising under moonlight
In the movie, Zhao Wei’s character is a taxi driver, while Motoki is a make up artiste. After they met one another, they fell in love and became lovers. The night scene was when they declared their love for each other. Besides car cruising under the moonlight, Zhao Wei and Motoki also talked outside the car. Later, Motoki took out the lipstick from his make-up box, and scribbled words of love on the windscreen with Zhao Wei. A very romantic sight indeed.
Although Zhao Wei and Motoki did not converse much off-camera due to the language difference, they were able to enact the scene under the direction of director Zhang Yibai.
Invited fans to her car
During the filming, Zhao Wei would check with Director Zhang for comments and feedback. Her fans were very supportive of their idol and brought her desserts when they visited her at the filming site. Zhao Wei was appreciative of their thoughtfulness, and invited them to her car for a short chat.
