独家专访最佳女主角斯琴高娃:赵薇前途无量

Golden Globe Best Actress award winner Siqin Gaowa granted us an exclusive interview during the celebration dinner. She had good review of Zhao Wei’s performance in [The Postmodern Life of My Aunt]. When asked about her opinion on the Best Actress award being awarded to Mainland Chinese actresses for the past four years, Siqin Gaowa said, “This is normal. This shows that Golden Globe Awards has a professional and well-principled awarding system.”

Although Zhao Wei gave a splendid performance in [The Postmodern Life of My Aunt], the Best Supporting Actress award was won by Hong Kong actress Shao Yinyin. Nevertheless, Zhao Wei got a strong vote of confidence from Best Actress winner Siqin Gaowa. Siqin Gaowa admitted that she did not understand ‘Little Swallow’ in the past. But she felt that Zhao Wei has been developing since then, and “this girl (Zhao Wei) has a bright future.”

Comment about Zhao Wei: Bright future
Siqin Gaowa felt that Zhao Wei’s performance in [The Postmodern Life of my Aunt] was ‘splendid’. She disclosed that they had an enjoyable time during filming and that they sparked ideas off one another. “When I saw her as ‘Little Swallow’ in the past, I didn’t really understand her and her role. I mean, why did she portray a princess that way? But after I got to know her, I realized that she was always developing as an actress. She even went back to Beijing Movie Academy to study Masters in Directing. This showed that she is an intelligent person who knows what she wants to pursue. She’s definitely not a shallow one.”

Comment about awards: Golden Globe is not for fun
The Golden Globe Best Actress award was been won by Mainland Chinese actresses for the past four years. Siqin Gaowa felt that this was correct, and displayed the professionalism of the Golden Award rewarding system.

This is Siqin Gaowa’s second award from Golden Globe, the first from movie [Homecoming]. After a gap of more than twenty years to her second trophy, Siqin Gaowa remarked that it was down to luck and fate, and of course her firm belief of the awards system. “My role in both movies is very down-to-earth, very Mainland Chinese. However, the judging panel in Golden Globe did not close their eyes to the movie and my performance.”

Comment about Aunt: I can understand her
“I don’t go and think about my past roles and their impact on my life. To me, ‘Aunt’ is a just a new role. I need to use my heart to understand what the scriptwriter wants to portray from this character, so that I know how to enact my performance. ‘Aunt’ is a middle-aged lady, so am I. Perhaps that’s why I can understand her. As to whether one can act to the role, I guess it depends on the artiste.”

Last night, Siqin Gaowa insisted on attending the ceremony even though her leg was not well. When asked how she could continue in movie-making for the past few decades, Siqin Gaowa said, “I’m still alive; still healthy and optimistic. I have my own dreams, ambitions and principles. I still have so many fans, not just in China, but also Hong Kong. I like to participate in movies, and that’s my inspiration.”
