Beijing Olympics is definitely a must-watch event for the country, and the artistes and stars are also giving the event their full attention. Zhao Wei disclosed that she is watching the Olympics everyday, and admitted that she cried for the champions.
Zhao Wei was the one who carried the Olympics fire torch when it passed Anhui Wuhu Province. She disclosed her pride at this achievement. Zhao Wei also participated in the promotional advertisement, where she enacted a fencing sportsperson.
Zhao Wei expressed her interest in the competition, disclosing that she watched the event on television daily. However, she was not able to cheer the sports people in person at the stadiums. It was because she gave the tickets to her foreign friends to enjoy the atmosphere in person.
As the Olympics continued to the fourth day tomorrow, the gymnastics team event (men) would be vying for the gold medal, while China’s men basketball team would also be sparring with Spain in the qualifying rounds. When asked which sport she would be watching, Zhao Wei said, “This is a very tough question, probably gymnastics?”
Zhao Wei also disclosed that she has shed tears for China’s sportspeople. “When I saw the gold medal winner, I’d cry with joy. But even when our sportspeople did not win, I will also cry because I see them cry. I’m easily affected.”
The artistes have been wearing red during the Olympics period, as if it is the Chinese New Year period. Today, Zhao Wei wore a bright pink dress for our interview.

C: You’re now a Masters student, and need to balance that with your filming and singing appointments. There are rumours that you are very stressed and fear that you could fail your final year thesis?
Z (After some thought): Yes, I do feel that my schedules are tight and this would inevitably affect my studies. But I will still focus on my studies during my free time, so I believe it should not affect my thesis.
C: Before accepting the role of ‘Sun Shangxiang’ in [Red Cliff], did you have any favourite role that you wish to portray? Did you wish that you could be cast as ‘Xiao Qiao’?
Z (Smiles): No, I really wanted to act ‘Sun Shangxiang’. I feel that she’s a feisty character and suits me. As for ‘Xiao Qiao’, I think Chiling Lin’s more suitable for that role.
C: Many critics slam [Red Cliff], saying that the movie twisted the history of the story. What are your comments on this?
Z: Actually, a movie is a movie. There is no need to compare it against the actual novel or story. If you really wanted [Romance of the Three Kingdoms], you might as well just read the novel. The ultimate aim of the movie is to make the audiences happy.
C: Some media claimed that [Red Cliff]’s box office earnings are not as high as anticipated, and could not be compared with [Curse of the Golden Flower].
Z: In my mind, [Red Cliff] is a success and the box office earnings are satisfactory.
