On August 22, 2008, at 6:00PM, 2008 BAZAAR Celebrity Charity Gala took off at Park Hyatt Beijing. Heavyweight Chinese celebrities including Zhang ZiYi, Zhao Wei, Jet Li, and John Woo were all present at the gala. In the midst of the Olympic Games, Celebrities displayed their compassion and reached out a lending hand to the people in the earthquake striken Wenchuan in Sichuan province.

Zhao Wei, who first rose to stardom and popularity for her performance in Qiong Yao's [Princess Huan Zhu] (aka My Fair Princess), had recently successfully portrayed the tomboyish Sun ShangXiang in director John Woo's [Red Cliff]. Her famous line "every woman has a share of responsibility for the fate her country" became a popular saying among young people. Zhao Wei was also at the Charity Gala. During our interview, the lively and cheerful Zhao Wei inevitably had to talk about the Olympics, "The Olympics is hosted in Bejing this time around, I have also watched many matches."

Yet when asked who was her favorite athlete, Zhao Wei's answer was different from all the other guests, "I really like the fencing athlete Tan Xue. I feel that she is also very pretty. At the last Olympics, she took silver, this time it's also a silver medal, but that's alright, she is still the best even if she did not win gold."

When the subject shifted to Liu Xiang, Zhao Wei had more forgiving words for the athlete, "I saw Liu Xiang's competition. He withdrew from the race due to his health. Though it was a regretful thing for everyone, I believe that we should all be more tolerant and forgiving towards him. I think that he had already endured a lot of hardships in training. Even though he did not complete the competition, I still support him." (Reporter: Li Qing)
