Hong Kong-based sales outfit Distribution Workshop has picked up international rights to Jingle Ma’s Mulan, a live-action version of the Chinese classic folk story, and Ivy Ho’s romantic drama Crossing Hennessy.
Mulan stars Vicki Zhao Wei as the plucky Chinese heroine who dresses as a man in order to join the army and honour her father. Chen Kun (Painted Skin), Jaycee Chan (The Sun Also Rises) and Russian singer Vitas also star.
Produced by Beijing-based Starlight International, the $11.7m film is currently in production and scheduled for release in China early next year.
