At the promotional event for [14 Blades], Zhao Wei's consecutive absence is a hot topic. Zhao Wei was still not present at the news conference for the movie premiere. She is reportedly 5-6 months pregnant. In this regard, Director Daniel Lee expressed, "Although it is a regret that Zhao Wei is unable to take part in the movie promotion, each actor is an individual on his or her own. This is my first time collaborating with her, and we became good friends after shooting the movie. I admire her character. She is very sincere and frank, with great acting skills, and is always considerate of others by putting herself in other people's shoes. Under her current situation, as I friends, I completely support her in all that she had done. I completely feel that she has done the right thing." As for whether there was a breach of contract on Zhao Wei's part for missing the promotions, Donnie Yen disclosed that because actors usually sign a basic contract, the part about promotions should not have been written down in details. “This is part of the duties of an actor, the industry norm." Yen added, "Zhao Wei must have liked it to have accepted performing in this movie, it was surely not just for the money. Moreover, [14 Blades] was filmed in Yinchuan, which was very tough. Without a doubt, she have her reasons for not showing up, whether it was a pregnancy or not, I send her my well wishes."
