Yesterday, the touring promotion for period martial arts movie [14 Blades] came to its second pitstop, Shanghai, where director Daniel Lee, Donnie Yen, Wu Chun, Kate Tsui and Qi Wu Yu attended the event.
Did not contact Zhao Wei, but anticipates future collaborations
[14 Blades], the second collaboration between Donnie Yen and Zhao Wei will be in theaters starting February 4th. For Yen, although the two of them had some elements of romance in [Painted Skin]. it was in [14 Blades] that Yen's killer machine character ends up falling in love with Zhao Wei. At the premiere in Beijing, Donnie Yen watched [14 Blades] for the very first time. "Usually, actors tend to be very picky when watching their own movies, but this time, I was very into it. The emotional scenes between Zhao Wei and I are definitely fuller than the ones in [Painted Skin]." When asked whether he had communicated with Zhao Wei on the subject of how the love scenes should be tackled, Yen responded that since filming in the desert was boring, the two of them often talked about life in general. For example, when seeing a number of elderly extras on set, he would reflect that considering how short life is, actors cannot be overly intoxicated in his or her own world, and should instead be in sync with society. Zhao Wei was said to agree with this attitude towards life. However, the fact that Zhao Wei was absent for all the promotional event made it impossible for Donnie Yen to escape inquiries from the media. Yen stated he didn't know if Zhao Wei have married or become pregnant, "I believe that everyone has seen some reports over the internet. It's been a while since I last saw her, nonetheless, I hope that she has found her happiness. We will be sending her our well wishes from our hearts.” Yen expressed that he had not contacted Zhao Wei, "Please don't disturb her, leave her some personal space. Although I really want to tell her that our [14 Blades] is superb, and I hope that she will also go watch the movie and see how amazing her performance was!" When asked who would he like to collaborate with in the future, he thought about it and said, "I would like to collaborate on another movie with Zhao Wei!" Yen disclosed that although there are 8 productions extending invitations to him in 2010, he will only be able to select those that he really like or those that are challenging, and he will begin to no longer place kungfu elements to be top of the list when selecting productions.
