Our reporter has found out from the crew of [A Woman's Epic Poem] that most of the hospital scenes of the production will be filmed in the First People's Hospital in Wuhu. Until yesterday, close to 30 scenes were already completed. Apart from Zhao Wei and Liu Ye taking turns being hospitalized, most of the cast members also appeared on the set.
During the shooting, there weren't many scenes where that involved having Zhao Wei "hospitalized", mostly the scenes before and after giving birth to OuYang Xue, the child to Tian SuFei and OuYang Yu, from Xiao Fei (nickname for Tian SuFei) going into labor to giving birth to the baby, and subsequently to recuperating in the hospital after giving birth. On a comparison basis, Liu Ye had more scenes where he was hospitalized. In the storym OuYang Yu was hospitalized several times for illnesses such as acute hepatitis and recurrent stomach hemorrhage.
Since Tian SuFei and OuYang Yu were hospitalized, many of the characters in the story appeared on set to visit the two patients, including the all-knowing, sharp-tongued yet soft-hearted Mother Tian (Xiao Fei's mother, starring Fang ZiChun) who lived in poor conditions, the high-spirited yet ruthless female revolutionary Xiao Wu (Xiao Fei's childhood friend) who finally returned to humaness, and the worldly Fang DaJie (literally means big sister Fang, starring Yang Tao) who lived in the romantically poetic world of her youth. The actress taking on the role of Zhao Wei's "mother" is the state-level first-grade actress Fang ZiChun, who appeared in numerous works including [Temporary Family], [Dates at the Oceanarium], [Love and the City], and [Xun Hui Sheng]. In addition, she acted alongside Zhao Wei in the TV Series [Sisters' Adventures in Beijing].
Due to the large amount of hospital scenes, plus the huge timespan involved, the workload was heavy for each department, especially concerning the scenic background. It is said that the set for the hospital scenes is located at the former obstetrics clinic of the first people's hospital of the city. The crew staff reveals that since the location has already been long vacant, the crew redecorated it according to needs, "the workload for creating the scenic background was heavy, including changing the glasses, doors, and lights, as well as repainting the walls." In addition, because the story entails patients and hospitals from different time periods, the requirements for finding qualifying props were very stringent. "The medical equipments for different time periods were especially hard to find." Staff told the reporter that among the props was a brown, drip-feeding bottle from the 50's that they found from a hospital in Huaian.
