赵薇晶报独家专访
31 Mar 2008
D: Daily Sunshine
Z: Zhao Wei
Career: Overnight fame; ten years to mature
D: You seem to have hit a little snag recently, where online fans attacked your role of “Sun Shangxiang” once they saw your screen persona.
Z: (laughs) I’ve already written an article to rebut their attacks. I feel that some parties intentionally blow up such issues. These people write with evil motives and I look down on such people. They have such low IQ and EQ (Zhao Wei said all these in the same breath). Actually, it’s just a simple poster, but the photographer purposely took such a distasteful photograph of the poster. Why does the photographer want to showcase his or her lousy skills?
D: After all that you have gone through, would you still be angry over such issues?
Z: Well, I wasn’t really unhappy when I saw it (laughs). I saw through the plot at once. These things are ‘small fry’ for me. However, that does not mean that I will suffer alone and in silence. I will show my views.
D: You found fame overnight, but through the ten years in the industry, we feel that you’ve matured and have learnt to protect yourself.
Z: I don’t usually leave knots in my heart. I split myself into two selves. One is looking from the outside perspective. This self can see better and after that, will feel happier.
D: In your opinion, how should matured ladies view career in their lives?
Z: It really depends on what stage of life one’s in. Like myself, career definitely ranks much higher. I’ll feel really happy if I perform well in my career. It’s because I don’t have a family yet, so I’d feel happy whenever I go filming, because that’s when I find company and people would ask me for dinner (laughs).
Love – “I’m the sort who gives more than I take”
D: Career, love, marriage and family – which do you think is more important?
Z: If I have the opportunity in future to have someone I love and start a family, I’ll treat my marriage and family the same as I treat my career – with love and care.
D: We had another interview this morning with Jiang Wenli, and we asked her what type of partner she feels she can marry. We’d like to pose the same question to you.
Z: Did she say someone like Gu Zhangwei? Keke, previously when I didn’t know anything, I’d like to have someone like a big brother, who’d bring a guiding light to my life. However, I later realized that I seemed not to need any guidance anymore. Now, I feel that my partner should have a good character. Before the last two years, I like someone with a sense of humour. In these two years, I focus on someone who is responsible and stable… I think it’s really hard to say. If I knew what man I like, I’d be married by now! (laughs)
D: So what kind of love relationship do you think is healthy and complimentary?
Z: If you can be considerate to the other party and think of his needs, but at the same time, you’d need to give enough space and privacy. Many times, ladies are not able to grant space, and are more compulsive…
D: Soon, you’d be acting in Yan Geling’s [A Woman’s Epic Poem] with Liu Ye. We feel that you’re really compatible to enact Tian Sufei…
Z: (laughs) After Yan Geling finished writing the script, she said that she wanted me to act this role; her producer told me that. Perhaps it’s the character’s silly determination and big-heartiness. She knew that her lover loves someone else, but she’s alright with it. In real life, I also give more than I take; it’s more important that both parties are happy together. Even towards friends, I also want everyone to be happy…
D: Jiang Weili said that the most enriching experience for a lady in life, is to have a baby. Have you thought of that?
Z: I’m not mentally prepared to have a baby right now. I think my mum is also not prepared either. Haha, if I’m going to give birth, I can imagine her crying out: oh, my child is having her child! Of course, I’d be very happy if I have a child, but it’s not up to me. I’m not really a planner. Anyway, I will try to give birth to my child as long as my body and health allows me to do so. I’m not so unconventional as to live a childless and lonely life…
Beauty: “It’s time to work out the ‘outer shell’”
D: Did you really go to Marie France and shed eight kilograms?
Z: Of course, who would refuse such a good offer? (laughs)
D: The advertisement focused on you, saying that you’ve changed from a ‘girl-next-door to the focus of sexuality’. Is this considered a breakthrough?
Z: (laughs) In actual fact, I’ve always been focusing on sexuality.
D: But is it really that ladies can only look beautiful after they’ve slimmed down?
Z: No, that’s not what I’m advocating. What Marie France and myself is saying, is that we should lead a healthy life with good living habits. It’s not just a matter of shedding weight.
D: Do you think there is a huge connection between the self-confidence of ladies, and how they look?
Z: Your question really hits the issue, doesn’t it? When I was young, I felt inner beauty was very important and didn’t really care about my looks. I mean, I was climbing tress and things like that, how beautiful can I be? But as I grew older, I found that outer beauty is getting more important. If you can be beautiful on both the inside and outside, why shouldn’t you do that? If a lady says that she only focuses on inner beauty, that’s just her excuse for being lazy. I used to be lazy myself (laughs).
D: Why did you start focusing on your looks now?
Z: Well, I grew up, and of course, my job has a lot to do with it. I need to maintain an image. If I always go out looking disheveled, I’d have let down fans who like me. Besides, if I look good, I’d feel good. Previously, when I feel down, I just continued feeling down. But now, I’d put on some makeup and let myself look nicer. I find that doing it would lift my spirits as well. Besides, I’ve already nurtured my inner beauty; it’s time to work out the ‘outer shell’ (laughs).
D: You’re really humorous and clever…
Z: Haha, finally there’s someone who said I’m clever! Actually, I never think that I’m stupid…
D: Wah, aren’t you a bit too straightforward?
Z: Huh, so you dug a trap for me to fall into! In that case, I wished I was stupid! Haha!
Next step: “I have plans to be a director”
D: You’re now studying Masters in Directing. Are you planning to head towards directing?
Z: Yes, but right now, my focus will still be on acting.
D: In that case, why did you study directing?
Z: Well, because directing is more fulfilling than just studying acting. I just want to learn. I think it’s a very interesting thing, and it helps to maintain my looks. (laughs) I’d encourage all ladies to continue studying!
Impressions – Her eye expression
We’ve always liked Zhao Wei. She is straightforward and does not mince her words. She is humorous and mischievous with her words. Even if she had matured over the years, the sincerity and simplicity that emits from her eyes is genuine. That is why until today, Yan Geling still insists that Zhao Wei must enact the role of ‘Tian Sufei’ in [A Woman’s Epic Poem]. It is because it is a gift to all ladies, not just female artistes, to have experienced but not be worn down.
