Female, 27 years old. Yuwei works as a magazine editor. She is an ambitious lady with a gentle heart. She is quiet with some melancholy characteristics. Yuwei does not carry the arrogance or flamboyance of a white-collared worker. Instead, she is someone who is used to taking solid steps in this fast-forward city. Yuwei belongs to the last generation of Chinese, who still feels that responsibility is a core trait. Being in her late twenties, Yuwei is no longer innocent and child-like, but she retains her passionate character, and still holds on to some fancy dreams. The reality of life has not molded her completely. She is not a strong person, and does not hide her feelings or try to harm others. Yuwei has never embarked on a real love relationship, and is still a virgin when it comes to kissing. In this easy society where sex is readily spoken of, Yuwei can be considered a 'dinosaur', and is a legend in the world of fashion and city life.
27 year-old Yuwei is an outstanding magazine editor, with around eight staff and over ten computers under her charge. One day, she suddenly received a notice from the editing department that she was to stop all her work as the company is facing financial difficulties despite the huge sales of her magazine. Yuwei could only hide her frustration and head to complete her final exclusive interview. Today should be one of Yuwei's saddest days, but Yuwei's interview subject - Mr Huo Ran proved to be interesting and intriguing.
Three days later, Yuwei received a letter of invitation from Huo Ran; he has invited her team to join his upcoming magazine unit. Huo Ran quickly realized that he has employed a superwoman who could promote and improve sales figures on a monthly basis. However, he also noted that Yuwei receives many calls during office hours. Huo Ran is getting curious about his new employee…
It turned out that Yuwei has a demanding mother, who was anxious to marry her daughter off. Yuwei found out recently that her mother's hatred for her father stemmed from the fact that he abandoned her to marry another woman. This other woman was far inferior to Yuwei's mother in terms of elegance, occupation and looks. Yuwei knew it would be impossible to resolve the animosity between her parents, but when she saw the difficult life her father is leading, she could not bare not to help him. Yuwei even helped the woman who tore her parents apart to look for a replacement kidney…
Yuwei's close friend Jimin has returned to Shanghai after being overseas for several years. Jimin is a seasoned traveler who does not hesitate to venture out of China, having been to places like Hongkong and New York. Jimin later married an arts merchant. Yuwei's mother liked to quote Jimin as a classic example for Yuwei to follow. However, Jimin had another agenda in her mind this time: to abort her unborn child. It turns out that Jimin had been lying about her marriage; she had been cohabitating with her superior all this while.
Whilst taking care of Jimin, Yuwei needs to look after her mother, her father, and the new magazine, especially when it came to the monthly sales. Yuwei really had her hands full. One day, Yuwei suddenly saw a note on her desk: "I can see that you're really busy. Will I be able to help?"
The note was from Huo Ran. Yuwei was touched by his kind gesture. It has been almost a year since she joined the company, but she never knew that Huo Ran was such a caring superior. At the same time, Yuwei made all kinds of excuses for his concern - he's just a kind boss, that's all! Yuwei started wondering why she was trying so hard to convince herself that Huo Ran is 'just a kind boss'…
But Huo Ran has developed a liking for Yuwei, with a tinge of sympathy in his feelings. He compared her with his wife Zhihan, who lives almost a perfect life. Zhihan had nothing to worry in life, except to take care of him. A whole string of events seemed to start to push Huo Ran and Yuwei together: Zhihan's brother returned from overseas, looking for his girlfriend; Huo Ran accidentally discovered that this girlfriend is actually Yuwei's friend Jimin…
These secrets removed the barriers between Huo Ran and Yuwei, and the distance drew even nearer when Zhihan became suspicious of their relationship. Zhihan displayed her callousness by shutting the magazine department and forcing Yuwei to resign. Huo Ran discovered her doing, and the perception of a perfect wife vanished forever from his mind. He began his desperate search for new love Yuwei…
Yuwei has returned to her hometown village, trying very hard to forget the caring boss. She could not believe it when Huo Ran turned up one day at her doorstep… At the same time, Huo Ran discovered the weak and lonely side to this super career woman, who actually needed someone to protect her gentle heart. If only they did not give in to their feelings that night; if only Zhihan did not later discover that she had a terminal illness…
While all these are happening, 'Monkey' was at Yuwei's side. 'Monkey' is a clever, optimistic young man who comes from a complicated family background. He refused to be swayed by all the gossip and rumours, and began his pursuit of Yuwei, wanting to take care of her and protect her from everything…
